History of Iris at Blokker
Blokker started growing Iris in 2009, when they took over the growing of the Iris crop from another grower. In the first year, Blokker grew about 400.000 bulbs outside only. Now the planting has reached over 1.5 million, both inside and out. The Iris crop is easy to grow but is extremely labour intensive to be able to have the right quality for the market. They are picked 3 times a day, 7 days a week to ensure the flowers are at the right stage of development. They are planted, picked and bunched by hand. Blokker is currently growing the Telstar and Discovery variety.
